Chinese communications equipment provider ZTE has reached an agreement with Thailand's CAT Telecom to build a nationwide backbone optical network throughout Thailand, according to a report by Sohu IT on February 27. As per the agreement, ZTE is expected to deliver its DWDM (Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing) ZXWM M900 backbone transmission platform, which will enable CAT Telecom to deploy 10,000 kilometers of DWDM optical fiber cables, as well as ROADM (Re-configurable Optical Add-Drop Multiplexer) equipment.

Meanwhile, ZTE announced on February 23 that the company has won a contract to deploy French Outremer Telecom's GSM (Global System for Mobile communications)/UMTS (Universal Mobile Telecommunications System) networks in French overseas territories, according to Interfax China. Regions covered by the contract include French Guiana and Guadeloupe in the Caribbean Sea as well as Reunion and Mayotte in the Indian Ocean. Pursuant to the contract, ZTE is expected to upgrade Outremer Telecom's existing 2G infrastructure and deploy new 3G networks for the telecom in said regions. The two companies have shared an existing business relationship. Previously, ZTE implemented Outremer Telecom's mobile network in Martinique in 2008.
